DMI - Week 01 - Success Mindset

Shortcuts don’t save time. They move the cost forward. You pay either way.

Early in my career at Genpact, I shipped an Oracle interface without fully validating edge cases. I documented it as “tested” when I’d only tested happy path. For weeks, I carried anxiety—not guilt, but dread of being exposed.

That feeling changed everything.

What I learned: Knowledge retained through struggle outlasts passive learning by a measurable factor.

I prepped for AWS SCS-C03 by drilling policy logic until I could architect IAM governance patterns without references. Six months later? Still could do it. Not because I’m gifted. Because I suffered through edge cases.

Compare that to engineers who took online courses and passed first-try—they couldn’t explain their own systems three months later.

The pattern holds across 19 years: exam teaches what, projects teach how, friction between them teaches why.

My 2.0 (5-month commitment):

• Anthropic partner cert pathway (Developer → Architect Professional)
• claude-masterclass: Python project integrating Claude into infrastructure validation
• Daily 7am standup: What feedback loop did I observe? What assumption did I break? Two focused bets. Not five. Not maintaining everything. Shipped well.

Real talk: If you’re tempted to cut corners because “probably won’t matter”—remember, shortcuts move cost forward. The only way to work without background dread is to obsess over validation, document thoroughly, and pair every cert with a project proving you understand why, not just what.

It’s not fast. It’s not sexy. But it’s the only way I know to build things I’m still proud of years later.
